Submarine 'Unbeaten', was en route from the Bay of Biscay to rendezvous at Bishop Rock, when mistaken for a German U - boat, it was bombed by an RAF Wellington, there were no survivors. On Saturday 24th May 1941, the British ships HMS Hood and HMS Prince of Wales engaged the German ships KM Bismark and KM Prinz Eugen in the Denmark Straits between Iceland and Greenland.  During this engagement the HMS Hood was destroyed with a large loss of life, out of 1, 419 men only three were rescued.  Son of Ernest Charles and Ada Hannah Jarvis of Enderby, Leicester.  [Memorial at Portsmouth Naval Memorial, Hampshire]
